Gerald Wilson is joint head of the private client group at Tanfield Chambers and deputy head of chambers.
He practices in family and property law, focusing on matrimonial finance, with a particular emphasis on cases involving third parties and/or business interests. He also has extensive experience in civil partnership, trusts of land, probate and Inheritance Act claims, claims under Sch.1 of the Children Act, residence disputes and surrogacy. Gerald is recommended as a leading junior in the Legal 500, where he is described as ‘calm under pressure and good at dealing with vulnerable people’. He regularly appears in both family and civil courts and is happy to guide solicitors unfamiliar with either procedure.
Gerald co-wrote Civil Partnership: The New Law and Same Sex Marriages and Civil Partnerships: The New Law and has brought several cases extending the rights of same-sex couples, including for reasonable provision under the Inheritance Act, the transfer of tenancies and the enforceability of cohabitation agreements. He obtained probably the first parental order for a same-sex couple in surrogacy in September 2010. He is a member of the FLBA, an associate member of Resolution and a founding member of the Lesbian & Gay Lawyers Association.
