It’s hard to believe that over three months have passed since we wrote about the skills that law firm leaders would need to manage their organisations through the Covid-19 crisis (Part 1 and Part 2). At home puppies have been acquired and banana bread baked as we’ve erased holidays, parties and festivals from our 2020 diaries. At work, we have seen colleagues and clients furloughed, hours and pay reduced and redundancies confirmed. We’ve also seen teamwork and commitment driving change more quickly than we might have thought possible.
With the first few months of the crisis behind us, August gives law firm leaders the opportunity to reflect on what has been achieved and to look ahead.
How will you ensure that change, implemented at a time of crisis, beds in and becomes a new normal? If, as Boris tells us, we’re back to BAU by Christmas, how will you ensure that your law firm is in the best place to capitalise on that? If the reality is less rosy than Boris (or indeed your own modelling) suggests, will your firm survive a Covid winter? What can you do now to improve its chances and to ensure that you and your colleagues are match-fit? What can you cut and where do you need to invest?
