6 October 2011 is a very important day for all law firms and organisations offering legal services. It is the day when the Solicitors Regulation Authority replaces all its rules, including the Solicitors’ Code of Conduct, with a new SRA Handbook.
The changes brought about by the new Handbook are fundamental and affect every aspect of client service from terms of engagement and conflict handling to referral arrangements and requiring a policy on interest on client monies. They also impose the conditions under which firms will be authorised to practice including the need to have in place rigorous management and governance procedures.
You need to prepare now as all law firms, and lawyers within them,
must be compliant with the new regulations by the 6 October 2011.
