This workshop course (limited to 25) will allow you to gain the skills and knowledge you need to be an effective representative whether you are a trainee solicitor or inexperienced representative. Delivered by highly experienced practitioners and packed with practical tips, this is 'the' course to develop your skills.

You will explore:

  • * Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984
  • Codes of Practice
  • Right to silence
  • Managing your relationship with:
- The client

- The investigating officer

- The interviewing officer

- The custody officer

- Appropriate adults

- Interpreters

The course will give you an understanding of the principle police powers of arrest, search, detention and identification and the confidence to assess disclosed evidence and your clients instructions, the ability to build successful relationships and advise clients on their interview options.

Matthew Hickling is an experienced litigator and advocate,now non-practising. He is a consultant and trainer not only in legal skills but also in legal practice and law updates. Formerly a Detective Inspector in the police before coming into Law, Matthew is now the lead assessor and examiner for CLT in the Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme (CLAS).

Christopher Green is a Solicitor-Advocate (Higher Court Criminal) who practices in Cardiff. Chris is a consultant and former senior partner with Claude Hornby and Cox, London and is a legal assessor to the disciplinary committees of several professional bodies.
