  Criminal Court Advocacy - The Essential Guide

Persuasive advocacy may be the product of learning and experience. The purpose of this course is to give you practical advice and assistance on aspects of advocacy in criminal proceedings from preparation to presentation.

Cover will be given to each of the skills listed:

  • * The Application for Bail
  • The Opening Speech
  • Examination in Chief
  • Cross-Examination
  • Re-Examination
  • Expert Evidence
  • The Closing Speech
  • The Plea in Mitigation
Delegates will have the opportunity to take part in the exercises which will assist in the development of competence as advocates in the criminal courts.

David Watts is a Higher Rights advocate practising with ZMS Solicitors in Leicester. He was formerly a solicitor with the CPS, an associate partner and duty solicitor with Nelsons and a solicitor at Cartwright King. David is also a member of CLT's PSR and CLAS Assessment Board, as an assessor.
