The Solicitors' Code of Conduct introduced six new core duties that solicitors must observe, together with new rules on client care, practice and risk management, conflict and confidentiality. Many of these rules apply to solicitors working in local government. At the same time the Employed Solicitors Code has been revoked, and the duties of employed solicitors are now covered in Rule 13 of the Code of Conduct. This course has been specifically written for local authorities and addresses issues of relevance to local authority solicitors.
The course includes:
- An introduction to the Core Duties
- Client care for local authority legal departments
- Conflict and confidentiality
- Equality and diversity
- Advocacy and litigation
- Rule 13 - The In House Solicitor Rules
- Do I need a practicing certificate?
- Who can I do work for?
- An overview of the other rules
