This course is specifically designed for local authority solicitors who wish to improve their advocacy skills and advocate on behalf of the local authority at County Court level and will concentrate on hearings where evidence is heard.
The course will include 2 role-plays for delegates, examination in chief of a principal social worker and cross-examination of a mother during which delegates will have an opportunity to advocate and receive feedback from the speaker. The course will cover:-
- Directions hearings
- Contested hearings
- Getting the law right
- Opening speeches
- Handling the judge
- Examination in chief
- Cross-examination, including experts
- Re-examination
- Closing speeches
Due to the workshop format and role-plays the course will be restricted to a maximum of 16 delegates.
