How does a Local Authority reach its decision? What is the Local Authority's process in reaching funding decisions and its care plan?
This course will provide insight to practitioners advising in matters where a Local Authority is involved pre and post commencement of proceedings.
Understand how and when a Local Authority makes decisions from the commencement and through the various stages of its involvement in the child's life.

- The interface between the role of the Social Work team and the LA legal team
- S.47 investigations
- Child Protection Conferences
- Family Group Conferences
- Pre-proceedings assessment and the PLO
- Legal planning meetings for emergency and planned care proceedings
- Evaluation and Care planning meetings including contact
- Permanency planning meeting including adoption and placement
- Presentation to independent panels including Adoption, Fostering and Funding panels
- Funding of assessments and consideration of financial packages
- How the child is heard during all the stages
