The Charities Act 2006 became effective late in 2006; many of its provisions are being phased in, and some require further consultation and legislation before they come into force. This session will cover the main changes under the Act, and will give an up to date picture regarding these provisions, and their impact on the charity sector. This course will cover:
- Background to the Act and the implementation timetable
- Registration - definition of charity, the new charitable Heads, the status of excepted and exempt charities
- Incorporation - the Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)
- Trustees - powers and obligations
- Accounting and reporting: amended regulations
- The Charity Commission itself and the new Charity Tribunal
