Book this Course
  • Advanced/Update * 3 hours CPD
This course is aimed at matrimonial lawyers who wish to develop their knowledge on pensions and divorce, and will help to unravel some of the mystique often surrounding experts' reports, pension jargon, as well as help practitioners avoid some of the many pitfalls seen over the past few years. With a pension often being the second largest asset in a divorce, it is important that lawyers have a firm grasp of what can and can't be achieved, and how to structure a settlement. This course will appeal to all lawyers involved in Ancillary Relief, irrespective of the quantum of their cases.

Specific topics to be covered will be:

  • Overview of the 3 remedies, and when to use each
  • When to appoint an expert
  • How pension reports are constructed
  • Unearthing "hidden value"
  • The new pensions regime post A-Day
  • The pitfalls and how to avoid them
  • Equality of Income or Equality of Capital?
  • A "Glossary of Jargon"
  • A number of case studies including Martin-Dye
