This course is designed to offer an extensive introduction to this complex area of law and will cover:

Mental Disorder and Compulsory Detention: the new Mental Health Bill and changes which will be implemented to the definition of Mental Disorder, Supervised Community Treatment and the treat ability test for Psychopathic Disorder.

Treatment of Mental Disorder: recent cases, the Bournewood case, and information on Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Discharge from detention under the Mental Health Act 1983: recent case law including the case of IH, information on the Mental Health Bill, changes in the definition of the nearest relative and points on Professional Conduct.

Aftercare, Rehabilitation and Patients in the community: Section 117 of the Mental Health Act 1983.
