When advising Asian clients in relation to divorce, ancillary relief and children disputes, the law may be the same but the cultural and religious background of the client may require you to adopt a different approach. This course provides practical and procedural advice and cultural/religious background notes to assist the family practitioners including:-
Divorce: Forced marriages and arranged marriages – Divorce, nullity or judicial separation – which ground for divorce is most appropriate
Ancillary Relief: Wedding expenses and gifts – reclaiming dowry – Jewellery and clothing – property interests of extended family – prospects of remarriage – earning capacity
Children: Specific religious and cultural dates to consider – applications by grandparents and other extended family
