This course is aimed at general commercial lawyers who are non-IP specialists and provides an overview of the key intellectual property rights and areas of intellectual property law, aimed at equipping commercial lawyers with what they need to know in this area when dealing with business clients. It considers how intellectual property rights can protect valuable aspects of a client's business and how these rights come into existence, are enforced and can be exploited.

Tim Harris is a solicitor in Bird & Bird’s Intellectual Property Group. His recent contentious experience includes the telecommunications patent action Nokia v InterDigital. His non-contentious work includes advising Nnokia Siemens Nnetworks in its recent purchase of Apertio and ongoing advice to Nnestlé. He has a scientific background with a Masters degree in chemistry from Oxford University.
Lorna Brazell has been at Bird & Bird since 1994 and became a partner in the IP Department in May 2001.
