Course Overview Seminar

We now have some actual experience of the Adoption and Children Act 2002 under our belts. How is the new Act “bedding in” and what particular problems have been thrown up? This course examines issues from a practical standpoint and addresses the problem areas.

It includes:

  • How Adoption Panels work, do they help or hinder, Placement for Adoption problems, Leave to revoke placement orders, Adoption and Special Guardianship Financial Support – battles between local authority and Private Practice; Adoption and Contact; “step parent” adoption.
  • Reports and Confidentiality
- Should parties see the entire Special Guardianship report? What are the Human Rights and practical implications of the Adoption Disclosure Provisions?
  • Placement Applications and Timing
- The tension between the courts and the Adoption Panel and the impact upon timetabling. What is the real effect of section 22?
  • Contact during the period of Authority to Place and after adoption. Contact during Special Guardianship. Are parents going to be disappointed?
  • Adoption and Special Guardianship support. Representation of Special Guardians. The Support/Remuneration “industry”
  • Step-parent (or “Partner of Parent”) adoption. Is it a thing of the past? Does it, and extended family adoption, “skew” family relationships and structures?
