This course is designed to give Duty Solicitors the practice uplift that they often so sorely need. Delegates will benefit not only from the formal input but also from the helpful forum style discussions covering local and regional issues in relation to both custody suites and the magistrates’ courts. Whilst delegates are provided with a complete and comprehensive set of updating materials covering criminal law, practice and procedure including the 2008 changes to PACE, the course principally seeks to focus upon practice matters using helpful case studies. Any other significant developments during the year including fixed and graduated fees together with maximising profitability will also be highlighted. The course fulfils the annual CPD requirements for police station and Magistrates' court work. The course will include:-
- Police Station Practice Update – dealing with the police and advising clients
- Fixed and graduated fees – dealing with the DSCC and the LSC
- Conflict – how, when to spot it and why it helps!
- Magistrates' Court Practice Update - Bail, Pleas and Mode of Trial
- Criminal Procedure Rules – compliance versus duties to the client
- Sentencing Update - for adults and Youths
